Burnout Sheers

The fabrics on this page are all burnout sheers (burnout process is also called devoré or devorée). In this process, a chemical is applied to the fabric and then the fabric is heated. In the process the cellulose fibers (here the rayon), is burned away. The sheer areas are then left with only the polyester fibers. The burned out areas are not as dense as the remaining fabric and are essentially see-through. We have photographed them against a contrasting color to better show off the pattern; however, the contrasting color is not in the fabric itself.

Unlike our crushed voile crinkle sheers, the selveges on this fabric tend to be wider and sometimes have a somewhat shaggy edge. You will probably want to put a small hem in the sides as well as hemming the cut ends.
